For three nights diners at Alexander's Cafe in Frenchtown will miss the old familiar photos of Austria. They have been replaced by the unique works of two local artists, who showed their work in St. Thomas for the first time in April. A reception will be held starting at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 22 at Alexander's.
Lexie Montgomery and Jessi Smith, the artists in question, work at Alexander's when they aren't creating art.
Montgomery, a multimedia artist, deals in found object sculptures using bottles, toys, and anything else that strikes her fancy. A graduate of Emily Carr College of Art and Design, Montgomery has addressed herself primarily to issues of sexuality, exploring the female experience.
Smith, an artist from Maine, uses the ocean and its creatures as her muse, working mainly in acrylic and pencil. Their works range from paintings and collage to found-art sculpture.
The show will hang at Alexander's through Saturday, April 24.
