POLICE ARREST FIVE AT J'OUVERT

There were five arrests during Thursday morning's Jouvert event. Four minors were arrested — three were charged with possession of a deadly weapon (knives) and the fourth youth was charged with possession of an unlicenced firearm. Maurice Samuel, 18, of Hospital Ground # 188 was arrested and charged with possession of a deadly weapon, a knife.
The J'ouvert detail included officers from almost every unit in the enforcement agency. Acting Police Chief Jose Garcia thanked all the officers and law enforcement personnel from other agencies.
Garcia said, "They all demonstrated true professionalism, using tact and diplomacy in dealing with such a massive crowd."
Commissioner Franz Christian, along with Garcia, said the Police Department will continue to aggressively enforce all laws and provide police security at all remaining Carnival activities.
The acting chief thanked all the people of the Virgin Islands and visitors for their help in making J'ouvert a successful event.
Garcia said, "Their cooperation with the police helped to suppress all incidents from escalating."
