ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER NAMED

Noreen Michael has been appointed assistant commissioner of Education. Michaels most recently served as director of health statistics at the Health Department.
Simmonds said, "Dr. Michael is a distinguished educator who, in addition to being the second in command will have oversight for three divisions, the Office of special education, the Office of Special Nutrition and the Office of Testing, Planning, Research and Evaluation."
Michaels, a long time St. Croix resident was an English teacher at Elena Christian Junior High school and Central High School early in her career, according to a release from education.
She has also been on the faculty of Louisiana Stat University, University of Kansas and Illinois State University where she earned her master's degree in behavioral foundations.
The also completed her doctoral degree in Educational Psychology at Illinois University.
