SCOTIABANK OPTIMIST REGATTA SAILS ON

The Scotiabank Caribbean International Optimist Regatta continued on Saturday with all four scheduled races completed. The small flat nosed prams, skippered by sailors as young as eight years old, proved to be up to the conditions that would have older sailors in more high powered dinghies wiping out right and left. The St. Thomas Yacht Club is hosting the event at Cowpet Bay.
Fifty-six young sailors from around the Caribbean, joined by sailors from the USA and one from Holland have sailed eight races so far with the final two races to be sailed Sunday morning. The participants are divided into three classes by age, with one additional class for first time racers.
Strong teams from the French islands of Martinique and Guadalupe, Puerto Rico and all three U.S. Virgin Islands were placing sailors in top spots Friday and Saturday. Sunday's races will be the deciding factor.
Complete results will be on St. Thomas Source after the completion of Sunday's Races.
