BUDGET HEARINGS SET

The Senate Finance Committee will hold hearings on the government's $486 million budget from July 27 to Aug. 27.
Finance Committee Chair Sen. Lorraine Berry said the hearings will begin with testimony from financial officers regarding fiscal '99 revenue collections and projections, as well as any required budget revisions.
The final week of hearings will concern government agencies Gov. Charles Turnbull has slated for reorganization; this includes the Office of the Governor, the Division of Personnel, the Office of Collective Bargaining, the Department of Planning and Natural Resources, the Government Development Bank, the Department of Housing, Parks and Recreation, the V.I. Housing Authority, the V.I. Housing Finance Authority, the V.I. Racing Commission and the V.I. Police Department.
At those hearings, Turnbull Chief of Staff Juel Molloy will present the details of the reorganization plan. This reorganization is expected to make up for the shortfall in the fiscal year 2000 budget, Berry said in a statement.
