POLICE OFFICER ARRESTED FOR ASSAULT

Police Officer Carlton Charleswell has been accused of assaulting his girlfriend. He was arrested Monday and charged with aggravated assault and battery.
Charleswell's girlfriend reported to police that during a heated argument, Charleswell approached her with a knife and struck her with his open hand, according to a release from Police Chief Jose Garcia.
Charlewell will be placed on administrative leave beginning Tuesday morning, the release said.
Bail was set at $1,000.
