Virgin Islands' Promise, an affiliate of America's Promise initiated by President Bill Clinton and General Colin Powell, got off to a good start Saturday with a march and youth prayer rally. Sen. Judy M. Gomez to has been the point person in getting Virgin Islands' Promise off the ground.
A release from her office said the march from Rothschild Francis Square to Emancipation Garden and the program of prayer, song, dance and pantomime was well-attended.
The keynote message, Youth of Promise, was delivered by Darnell Brooks of the Inernational Gospel Center of St. Thomas.
Virgin Islands' Promise is committed to providing five fundamental resources to young people, according to Gomez.
They are:
An ongoing relationship with a caring adult, mentor, tutor or coach.
A health start.
An opportunity to give back through community service.
A marketable skill through effective education.
Structured activities during non-school hours.
Gomez said a series of programs and activities will be implemented to assist all Virgin Islands' youth.
