For the second time in two days a dead body has been discovered in a St. Thomas home.
According to V.I. police officials, the Major Crime Unit was called to the Sapphire Beach Condominiums early Friday to investigate a report of a dead body. Upon arrival, officers discovered Edwin W. Orr, 40, lying on the living room floor.
According to a police press release, Orr appeared to have been dead for at least two days. Because of the suspicious origin of the case, police said the cause of death and other information will be provided after an autopsy is done.
Meanwhile, federal and local police are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found at her residence in Estate Wintberg shortly after 7:30 a.m. Thursday.
Major Crime detectives from the Police Department and agents of the Safe Streets Task Force were called to 1-68 Wintberg after the woman was found dead by a friend.
Investigators have reportedly widened the scope of the investigation to determine whether drug use played a role in the woman's death. Early reports that the woman was beaten and sexually assaulted were unfounded, sources said Thursday morning. Neither local nor federal authorities have commented publicly on the death of the woman or on whether foul play is suspected.
The woman, still unidentified by police, lived in one of several rental units at the Wintberg Estate address.
