The Ivanna Eudora Kean Devil Rays clinched the 2000 varsity high school baseball title with their 7-3 victory over the All Saints Vikings Tuesday evening.
The Devil Rays are 7-0 with a one game remaining. They lead Charlotte Amalie by two full games.
On Tuesday, the Vikings scored first when first baseman Jose Carrillo hit a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning. The Devil Rays answered on a solo home run off the bat of Levron Sarauw Jr. in the top of the second inning to tie the score. The Devil Rays held the Vikings scoreless in the bottom of the second inning.
Things started to fall apart for the Vikings in the top of the third inning. They allowed the Devil Rays three runs as starting pitcher Robert Clouden gave up back to back singles and walked three in a row. The Vikings rallied back with two runs in the bottom of the third to make the score 4-3.
However, the Devil Ray put another three spot on the score board in the top of the fourth inning. Sean Samuel scored on a double by Rudell Cumberbatch. Deshawn Brooks then reached on an error. Leroy Thomas Jr. singled, scoring Cumberbatch and Brooks.
The Vikings changed pitchers in the fifth inning with Kenneth Arthur taking the mound. Arthur did not allow the Devil Rays to score again.
The Devil Rays countered with their ace pitcher, Sarauw. He struck out five of the six Vikings he faced and picked up the save.
