Domino gas stations on St. Thomas remained closed Tuesday morning, marking a full week that the service stations have been out of gas.
The barge that brings gasoline from Puerto Rico to Domino stations is out of service and will remain so until its owner complies with U.S. Coast Guard regulations governing dry dock inspection and certification, Coast Guard officials said Monday.
The barge was abandoned by its Puerto Rico-based crew as Hurricane Debby threatened the islands last month, according to the Coast Guard, without the crew filing any mooring plan.
At the time, the fuel barge was already overdue for dry dock, and its certification had expired. The Coast Guard said it is working with the owner to get the necessary work done, but that it may take some time as the barge's next voyage must be to dry dock.
In the meantime, unless some other gasoline transport service is obtained, Domino stations on St. Thomas are out of stock. There was no comment Monday from Domino General Manager Sam Benjamin to the situation.
Domino stations are located on St. Thomas on the Harwood Highway, at the Pollyberg intersection, near Krum Bay and on Centerline road near the Oswald Harris Court housing community on St. Thomas.
