The Marlins soared over the Mountaineers Wednesday night, eliminating them from the Donald O. Senthill Softball League semifinals 17-7. The victory put them into the championship round against the Smith Bay Posse.
The Marlins used a combination of hitssome hard off of players' gloves and others that were cleanand walks to take a five-run lead after the top of the first inning. The Marlins added to the lead with one run in the third and four in the fourth. The Marlins pounded a total of 20 hits off Mountaineers pitcher Jean Pierre Oriol. "They hit balls and strikes, they hit everything I pitched," Oriol said.
Jose Rosario was the biggest contributor to the Mountaineer's demise. Rosario had three hits in three at bats and collected 6 RBIs. Rosario's teammate, Kwodwo Brannigan also collected three RBIs with a 4 for 5 hitting performance. Daniel Confidente was also perfect with four hits in four at bats. Sandino Brito added three hits in four at bats.
Meanwhile, Marlins pitcher Elvis Lewis only allowed six hits. For the Mountaineers, Jeffrey Boschulte and Eddie Bryan each had two hits in four at-bats.
The Marlins took the final three games of the contest to take the best-of-five series, 3-1.
Game one of the championship series will be at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday night. The series will be aired live on WVWI-AM 1000, Radio One.
