A guard at the Golden Grove Correctional Facility on St. Croix was injured Friday during a fight with an inmate.
According to officials at the Department of Justice, which oversees the Bureau of Corrections, a juvenile inmate, who had been tried and convicted as an adult, was making a sanctioned telephone call. A scuffle ensued when the guard ordered the inmate off the phone when he failed to end the call after the allotted time.
The guard was injured when the inmate struck him in the head with the phone. The inmate wasnt injured in the fight. He was subsequently placed in lock-down.
"Such behavior wont be tolerated under any circumstances," said Horace Magras, director of the Bureau of Corrections.
