Nov. 28, 2002 – Artwork by David K. Rees and Mike Woodcock and wines of Georges Duboeuf will be featured at Friday's Da Da Wine Down event at Cafe Amici.
The monthly gathering in Riise's Alley in downtown Charlotte Amalie is from 5 to 8 p.m.
Bellows International will be presenting this month's wine tasting and seminar, which are ongoing throughout the evening as long as supplies last.
Reese studied art in Britain then moved into advertising, eventually owning his own agencies in Australia. In 1990, he relocated to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates to do consulting work. There, he photographed the distorted, reflected images in mirror-clad towers and buildings with the idea of producing paintings from them. Returning to his calling as an artist, he emerged two years later with his "Reflected Dimensions" series. He also enjoys painting marine subjects and has exhibited at the annual shows in London of the Royal Society of British Artists and the Royal Society of Marine Artists. He is visiting the Virgin Islands for several months and has been commissioned to paint a portrait of Gov. Charles W. Turnbull and Lt. Gov.-elect Vargrave Richards.
Woodcock provides this statement concerning his work: "The considerable time I have spent in Asia and Africa has helped me to observe and appreciate different forms of beauty found in the physical and cultural environment everywhere I have been. I have learned to pay attention to the small details, particular to my everyday life, and feel challenged to capture them into my art."
Da Da Wine Down is free and open to the public and features complimentary finger food, a cash bar, and door prizes of dining certificates, wine and art. There is a $10 fee for the optional wine tasting and seminar.
