DIVI IS SCENE OF POST-SWEARING-IN SENATE FETE

Jan. 16, 2003 – To give St. Croix a share in the opening-week festivities of the 25th Legislature, the senators and hundreds of their friends and family members gathered Wednesday evening at the Divi Carina Bay Resort and Casino for a post swearing-in ceremony and dinner reception.
According to a news release, Senate President David Jones in his opening remarks told the audience that he will support "Team Democrat" and that he is ready to take on the task of acting as the Senate leader.
Jones, a St. Croix district senator, promised that his leadership in the body will foster fairness, equity, openness and transparency.
And Senate Vice President Lorraine Berry assured the audience that St. Croix will get the legislative support it needs because the people of St. Croix have elected senators who want to do something. She added: "We have a lot of work to do, especially on crime."
