PINE PEACE DINNER AUCTION SET FOR MARCH 22

Feb. 13, 2002 – With only a bit more than a month to go before the 17th annual Pine Peace School Dinner Auction, it's time to shop for your island fancy outfit. "It's a fun excuse to get dressed up," development director Damara Merten-Farwell says.
This year's event, set for March 22 at the Westin Resort, celebrates the school's 25th anniversary. Tickets are $100 per person, or $800 for a table of 10.
Proceeds from the event, the school's biggest fund raiser of the year, "go toward scholarships and to upgrade technology," Merten-Farwell said.
The evening will begin with an art exhibition from 5:30 to 7 p.m. featuring work by many of St. John's artists, as well as some from off island. This is also the time to make your bids on silent auction items.
The dinner and live auction, with George Blackhall at the microphone, will begin at 7 p.m. Also during dinner, St. John photographer Steve Simonsen will be showing slides of old and new photos of Pine Peace students — "to show how Pine Peace has grown," Merten-Farwell said.
Among the items to be auctioned are masks made by Pine Peace students, jewelry, teak furniture, services provided by local businesses, dining certificates and, of course, getaway trips — to St. Thomas, other Caribbean islands and the mainland. Some of the trips off-island include dining and admission to attractions as well as accommodations and airfare.
Tickets are being sold at the school, located on Gifft Hill Road. For more information, call 776-6595.
