March 7, 2003 – Water and Power Authority-contracted crews will be working for the next week on maintenance projects in downtown Charlotte Amalie in preparation for the installation of an underground electrical feeder to serve the East End of St. Thomas.
Fortress Electrical Contracting is carrying out the work, which involves cleaning underground duct banks between the Krum Bay power plant and Wet Willy's bar and restaurant at the corner of Norre Gade and Bjerge Gade, according to a WAPA release distributed Friday afternoon.
Traffic control signs will be posted and flag crews will be on duty during the maintenance periods, the release stated.
Following is the schedule of when and where crews will be working:
Friday — Work will be on the waterfront apron, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday — One of the two westbound lanes of traffic on Veterans Drive will be closed from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. between the Tortola ferry terminal and the Krum Bay plant on a route turning into Sub Base at the Pueblo intersection and proceeding past the standpipe and the Texaco depot to the power plant.
Monday and Tuesday — Work will be on the waterfront apron, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Wednesday and Thursday — Work will be between Wet Willy's and the Vendors Plaza by Emancipation Garden. Work by the Vendors Plaza will take place on the waterfront apron. The westbound lane of traffic on Norre Gade between Wet Willy's and Memorial Moravian Church will be closed Wednesday night, from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. Thursday.
