NIGHT FIRE DESTROYS SAILBOAT IN CORAL BAY

March 13, 2002 – Fire Service officials suspect arson in a fire early Thursday morning that burned a sailboat anchored in Coral Bay to the waterline.
Deputy Fire Inspector Leon Powell said the fire marshal will be on St. John on Friday for further investigation.
Powell said police received a call about the fire at 1:35 a.m. By then, the boat was fully engulfed in flames that were visible from atop the hills that surround Coral Bay.
The vessel, which several Coral Bay boaters identified as one of the Cowhorns built in Coral Bay, was anchored about 100 yards off the shoreline adjacent to Route 107.
Powell said that a boater made his vessel available to help the firefighters reach the burning craft. He said investigators were trying to learn the name of the burned boat's owner. Coral Bay residents could identify the man only by his first name.
