SENATE MEETING ADJOURNED DUE TO NO-SHOWS

June 30, 2003 – The Committee on Public Safety, Judiciary, Homeland Security and Justice, chaired by Sen. Lorraine L. Berry, was adjourned Monday when none of the officials invited to testify showed up, according to a public information officer at the Legislature.
Berry had called the meeting to consider allotting $4,085 in U.S. Homeland Security funding to the Law Enforcement Planning Commission and to discuss amending the V.I. Code to the consider contributory negligence when assessing damages.
Invited to testify were: Maj. Gen. Cleave McBean, adjutant general/director. V.I. Territorial Emergency Management Agency; Eddy Charles, drug policy adviser to the governor; Attorney General Iver Stridiron; and Samuel Grey, V.I. Bar Association president.
