July 3, 2003 Police Commissioner Elton Lewis announced that Assistant Police Commissioner Bruce B. Hamlin had retired effective June 30. Lewis said he was disappointed in Hamlin's decision to retire but could appreciate Hamlin's desire to spend more time with his family.
Hamlin joined the Police Department in 1980, and Lewis said that Hamlin always demonstrated initiative, professionalism, devotion to duty, and competence as a police administrator.
The commissioner thanked Hamlin for his 23 years of service to the department and the people of the V.I.
