July 7, 2003 — The University of the Virgin Islands Bulletin Board issued today has these announcements:
Hurricane Preparedness and Weather Links Updated on the UVI Home Page
New links to hurricane preparedness plans and information for UVI's St. Croix and St. Thomas campus, as well as updated links to general Virgin Islands weather information, are now available from the UVI Home page (see link at end of article). Find the links on the opening page of the UVI web site, from the "Latest Links Section" and from the "Site Index" button.
Among the new links featured are the St. Thomas campus Hurricane Disaster Preparedness Manual and a Business and Facilities Services Hurricane Emergency Operations plan for the St. Croix campus. Also featured are links to UVI's On-Line Weather Station, which collects and posts current weather data gathered on the St. Thomas campus.
Thirty Scholarships for Inclusive Early Childhood Education Program Offered
Thirty academic scholarships are being offered for new participants in UVI's Inclusive Early Childhood Education Associate Degree program. The deadline for applications is July 25. The scholarships are being made available by the V.I. University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (VIUCEDD) and the Office of Child Care, Regulatory and Volunteer Services, in the V.I. Human Services Department.
Applicants must be currently providing educational and developmental services for children three to five years old, and have successfully completed introductory university English courses or have scored at least 500 on the English section of the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).

SBDC Offers Microsoft Access Workshop on July 9 on St. Croix
UVI's Small Business Development Center will conduct an "Introduction to Microsoft Access" workshop from 5:45 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9, at the UVI-SBDC Training Center located in the Sunshine Mall lower level, St. Croix. Admission is $20. UVI faculty, staff and students are admitted free but they must pre-register. For more information and to pre-register, call UVI-SBDC at 692-5270.
St. Croix Golden Key Honor Society Plans General Meeting on July 11
A general meeting of St. Croix's UVI Golden Key International Honor Society is scheduled for 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Friday, July 11, in the Associate Chancellor's conference room on the second floor of the Great House on UVI's St. Croix Campus. All members of the Golden Key Honor Society are invited to attend. For more information call 713-9743.
SBDC Seminar to Focus on Personnel Issues for Small Businesses on July 17
The UVI Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will conduct a seminar entitled "Personnel Handbook for a Small Business" from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 17, at the SBDC's St. Thomas training facility, located on the second floor, east wing of the Nisky Center. Cynthia Jerry, president/ CEO of New Image Foundation Corporation, will be the presenter.
Among items to be covered are: affirmative action and non-discrimination statements, attendance, discipline, grievances and appeals, benefits and leave. Seminar admission is $20. A $5 discount is available to those who pre-register and pay by Wednesday, July 16.
Admission for UVI faculty, staff and students is free but they must pre-register. For more information call 776-3206.
Call for Presentations Issued for Nonpoint Source Pollution Conference
A call for presentations has been issued by the organizers of the eighth V.I. Nonpoint Source Pollution Conference, to be held Dec. 4-5, 2003, at the Westin St. John Resort.
Abstract proposals for oral and poster presentations will be accepted by the conference planning committee until Sept. 2. Product and information exhibits focusing on conference topics are also being solicited. Contact the V.I. Planning and Natural Resources Department for details by Sept. 30.
