AYSO SOCCER FOR AGES 4-18 IS NOW REGISTERING

July 11, 2003 — St. Croix's 2003-2004 AYSO Soccer League is holding registration until Tuesday, July 15. Young people from age 4 through 18 are invited.
Registration forms can be downloaded at www.ayso1383.org, or call 778-1655 for places and times of walk-in registration. For those registering now, cost is $110. There are generous scholarships available, especially for girls 12 years old and up. Payment schedules can be arranged with registrar Tina Tobias. Training classes are offered.
Discounts on a child's fees are offered for a parent who volunteers as coach or referee. The Web site has lots of details about what volunteers are needed: coaches and assistant coaches, referees and assistant referees, coordinators, event assistants, field stripes, data entry, publicity, and team parent.
All registrations received after July 15 will be wait-listed and have no guarantee of playing. For additional information see the Web site or call.
The AYSO's principle philosophies of "playsoccer"™ are: 1) everyone plays; 2) balanced teams; 3) open registration; 4) positive coaching, and 5) good sportsmanship. Registrants are placed in several divisions, and some divisions may be combined.
The tentative calendar:
Aug. 2 (date tentative) Mandatory coaches meeting
Aug. 11-25 training for coaches; player evaluation; teams formed; practice begins
Aug. 30 – practice games / Labor Day Weekend
Sept. 12 – first weekend of league games
Nov. 15 – final games for fall portion of season.
The 2002-2003 AYSO season served more than 600 children on St. Croix and St. Thomas last year. St. Thomas registration has just begun and continues to September.
