Aug. 3, 2003 Announcing what is expected to be a boon to inter-island travel as well as to territorial employment, locally owned and operated Seaborne Airlines has said it will significantly increase the number of daily flights between St. Thomas and St. Croix in the late fall, just in time for the start of tourist season.
Seaborne currently offers 18 to 24 round-trip flights between the two islands, but with the addition of as many as 10 regular flights the airline will create a virtual air bridge from St. Thomas to St. Croix, a company release said.
Seaborne's Chief Marketing Officer, Omer ErSelcuk, said the additional flights will bring with them an expanded selection of discounted seats so that Seaborne customers will not only have many more flight choices, but will also enjoy increased fare flexibility, a perk for business commuters and visitors alike.
"The new flights and discounted fares will also … provide an increased incentive for visitors to travel between the islands." ErSelcuk said. "Tourists will be able to spend less time in transit and more time at their destinations."
Seaborne's expansion spells good things for local employment as well because new pilots, mechanics, reservations agents and ground staff will be required to handle the increase in volume, ErSelcuk said.
This latest expansion is hardly unprecedented for Seaborne, which began operations in the territory in 1992 with flying tours and has grown to service over 125,000 passengers yearly between St. Thomas, St. Croix and Puerto Rico, the release said.
