WAPA'S LESLIE A. SMITH EARNS CERTIFICATION AWARD

Feb. 6, 2004 – Leslie A. Smith, V.I. Water and Power Authority's director of audit/investigations, has earned the Certified Internal Auditor designation from the Institute of Internal Auditors.
The CIA designation is awarded to audit professionals who have met requirements of the Institute's program, which includes a four-part examination as well as high standards of character, education and experience. The Institute, which was established in 1941, has statistics indicating than only 3,000 of the 20,000 eligible candidates passed the November examination, a release said.
Smith, who had been a federal auditor, joined the Authority in 1995. He also has the designation of certified public accountant, certified fraud examiner and certified government financial manager.
Daryl "Mickey" Lynch, WAPA's governing board chairman congratulated Smith, and added that WAPA needs trained professionals to fulfill its core purpose; therefore management and staff are encouraged to pursue professional educational opportunities.
