Aug. 26, 2004 St. John voters are invited to hear what the four Democratic candidates for senator at large and the two for delegate to Congress have to say about island issues at a Primary Candidates Night forum.
It's set for 6:30 p.m. Sept. 2 at the John's Folly Learning Institute.
Bonnie Blair, who is helping to organize the event for the Coral Bay Community Council, said that while the candidates may be familiar to most St. John voters, this will be an opportunity to hear what they have to say publicly on current issues.
She said it also will be an opportunity for the candidates to learn about Coral Bay issues.
The candidates have been sent a list of questions from the Community Council, Blair said, "but there will be time for questions from the audience."
A social time with refreshments will follow the question-and-answer session.
Those running in the Sept. 11 Democratic party for senator at large are Craig Barshinger, William Belardo, Harry Daniel and Lorelei Monsanto. The winner will face off against the incumbent, Sen. Almando "Rocky" Liburd, in the Nov. 2 general election. Liburd is an Independent Citizens Movement candidate.
In the Democratic primary delegate race, Basil Ottley Jr. is challenging Delegate Donna M. Christensen. The winner will run against Republican Krim Ballentine and independent candidate Warren Mosler on Nov. 2.
