March 25, 2005 — The annual beach party and flotilla, sponsored by the Coral Bay Yacht Club, will be held Saturday, April 16 at Vies Campground on the East End of St. John. Everyone is invited to attend this event that includes the option of coming to the beach party by land or by sea. Admission prices include a lunch of burgers, hotdogs, and an assortment of West Indian dishes, together with live music provided by reggae band Inner Vision and crab races with Da Crab Mon.
Some of the best snorkeling around St. John can be found just off the beach, "So bring your bathing suit, snorkel gear, and beach towel," a release from the organizers said.
Beverages of your choice will be on sale at the beach. All proceeds from the event will benefit the children of the Guy H. Benjamin Elementary School in Coral Bay.
For those who wish to join the flotilla and arrive at the beach party by sea, ticket prices are $40 per person and include joining the crew of one of St. Johns sailing or motor vessels at 8 a.m. at the dinghy dock in Coral Bay. The boat trip will include a tour of the pristine waters surrounding the East End of St. John before arriving at the beach party. For those who prefer to arrive by land, ticket prices are $20 per person for the beach party beginning at noon. Raffle tickets are also on sale at $5 each (or five for $20) for great prizes, including the grand prize a 15 hp Yamaha outboard motor. Admission and raffle tickets are on sale now at Connections in Cruz Bay or Coral Bay and at Keep Me Posted in Coral Bay or may be purchased on the day of the event. Raffle tickets are also now available at several St. John business locations.
