Professional Development Conference at UVI

April 18, 2005 — Students from the University of the Virgin Islands St. Thomas chapter of the National Association of Black Accountants will host a two-day Professional Development Conference for all students on Thursday and Friday on the St. Thomas campus. The event will include a speaker's forum, lectures and an interview session. UVI’s Career Expo will be part of the conference.
The students will share what they learned at the association's national conference.
Business Professor Sharon Simmons said that the conference will "bring a closer bridge between UVI students and corporate America so that the students can begin their corporate career here."
Counseling Supervisor Verna Rivers, who is organizing the Career Expo, said she is pleased that students are taking an active role in planning their futures. "It’s an opportunity for our approximately 200 prospective graduates to network with the business community in search of full-time employment," Rivers said. "Our underclassmen will be able to explore their career options through internships, part-time employment and volunteering." The networking opportunities at the Career Expo "will help the students clarify their career opportunities," Rivers said.
All UVI students are encouraged to attend and participate in the events. Members of the community are also invited.
The Professional Development Conference is hosted by the Business Division and the Counseling and Placement Office on UVI’s St. Thomas campus.
