Harper, Robles Win Memorial Day Run

May 30, 2005 – While most people were taking advantage of the holiday to get some extra sleep, some 19 St. Croix runners were participating in the 22nd annual Memorial Day Run.
The race, though starting early, was an easy run. It was all downhill from the Beeston Health and Fitness Club, in Hermon Hill, down to the waterfront in Christiansted.
The top finishing male was Juan Robles a bronze medalist in the CARIFTA Junior Championships 3000 meters last year. He finished in the time of 9 minutes and 58 seconds. He was followed by the top V.I. finisher in the St.Croix Half-Ironman Triathlon, Mike Klein who finished in 11:27.
The first female to finish was Theresa Harper with a time of 11:48. Tish Dusich was second in 11:59; Sherma Aurelien finished third in 12:13; Tesha Distad was fourth in 12:32; Sisel Holloway was fifth in 13:02 and Earthla Augustin was sixth in 13:34. Mike Hill was the second place male in 14:10 and Fred Flint was third in 14:58.
Harper and Aurelin,are members of the V.I. National Cross-Country Team.
Other runners and their times were Gabbie Page 14:30; Dulcie Crowther 15:34; Patricia Brown 15:43;Andrea Wynter 18:13; Sofia Holloway 19:36; Vielka Wynter 19:55; Brigit Holloway 19:57; and Jerraine Wynter 20.
Next Saturday is the 21st annual Woman's Day Race. Harper has finished second in that race the last two years. It is sponsored by the Women's Coalition and may attract around 800 runners.It starts at 5:45 p.m. in Christiansted at the Scale House
That race and the Memorial Day race are both sponsored by the V.I. Pace Runners. After the June 5 race the Pace Runners will sponsor the Olympic Day Run on Saturday, June 11, at 5 pm at the University of the Virgin Islands St.Croix Campus.
