UVI Sets Financial Aid Awareness Week for Feb. 7-9 on St. Croix Campus
Financial Aid Awareness Week activities are scheduled on UVI's St. Croix campus for the week of February 7. Included will be general information sessions, a free financial aid seminar for junior and senior high school students and a workshop to assist with online application forms.
General information tables will be available to UVI students on Tuesday, Feb. 7, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Student Activities Center Terrace and from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Library Terrace. The focus turns to junior and senior high school students on Wednesday, Feb. 8, with a free financial aid seminar from 6 to 8 p.m. at the UVI Student Center. Presentations are scheduled by UVI Director of Financial Aid Mavis Gilchrist and St. Croix Financial Aid Specialists Cheryl Roberts and Alicea Joseph.
Finally, a Financial Aid Online Application Workshop for the 2006-2007 school year is set for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 9, in the Computer Lab, room 131 of the North West Wing building. Space for workshop is limited. To register for the online workshop, individuals should call 692-4193. UVI's 17th Afternoon on the Green Set for March 5; Cooks and Volunteers Needed
The grounds of the Herman E. Moore Golf Course on the University of the Virgin Islands St. Thomas campus will be alive with food and family fun from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 5, when UVI celebrates its 17th Afternoon on the Green. This year's theme is "Food, Fun, an Educational Mix – On the Green for 2006." Cooks, as well as general volunteers, are being sought. If you're interested in preparing a dish or you have a valid health permit and are interested in volunteering to serve food, please call the UVI Institutional Advancement Component at 693-1040.
Little Theatre Issues Casting Call for Spring Production
UVI's Little Theater has issued a casting call for its upcoming spring production of "The Servant of Two Masters," a Caribbean adaptation of Carlo Goldino's comedia del' arte play. A minimum cast of seven men and four women is required. Auditions are scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. on Feb. 15 and 16 in the UVI Little Theatre, located on the second floor of the CA Building on the St. Thomas campus. Participation by UVI students, faculty and staff is encouraged. The play will debut on March 31, with additional productions on April 1, 2 and 3. The guest director will be Tom Zeigler, a prominent playwright and director. For more information, contact Professor Dennis Parker at 693-1341. UVI Physical Plant and Security Employees to Be Recognized on Feb. 8
The entire University community has been invited to a Recognition Day Ceremony in honor of UVI's Physical Plant and Security employees. The ceremony has been scheduled for 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 8. It will be videoconferenced between Evans Center room 401 on the St. Croix campus and Chase Auditorium (Business room 110) on the St. Thomas campus. Invitations were issued by UVI President Dr. LaVerne E. Ragster and by Campus Executive Administrators John D'Orazio and Dr. Monique Guillory.
Buccaneers Men's and Women's Squads Begin Basketball Season on Feb. 3
UVI's Buccaneers men's and women's basketball teams begin their 2006 ODI season with games on Friday, Feb. 3, against the University of Puerto Rico-Ponce. Action will take place at the Universidad del Este near Carolina, Puerto Rico. The Lady Bucs' game begins at 6 p.m., the men's game follows at 7:30 p.m.
Reichhold Center Schedules Original Quelbe Production for Feb. 4
An original production – Playing Ring: A Musical Journey into Quelbe – is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 4, at UVI's Reichhold Center for the Arts. Playing Ring, produced by the Reichhold, is designed to pay tribute to Quelbe, the official music of the U.S. Virgin Islands. A selection of "scratch" bands and quadrille dancers will be featured. St. Thomas Golden Key Induction Scheduled Feb. 5
An induction ceremony for the St. Thomas Chapter of Golden Key International Honour Society is scheduled for 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 5, at the UVI Sports and Fitness Center. This year's ceremony will include the participation of Holly DeLauara, Golden Key International Honour Society Associate Director of U.S. University Relations. Golden Key members and employees of the University of the Virgin Islands are invited to attend.
Graduation Application Deadline is Monday, Feb. 6
According to the UVI Academic Calendar, Monday, Feb. 6, is the last day for students to apply for graduation in the spring of 2006.
St. Thomas/St. John Chapter UVI Alumni Association Sets Meeting for Feb. 9
A general meeting of the St. Thomas/St. John Chapter of the UVI Alumni Association is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 9, at UVI's Reichhold Center for the Arts on the St. Thomas campus. A social period will begin at 6 p.m. with the meeting starting at 6:45 p.m. A discussion of association events for the upcoming year is on the agenda. For more information call 714-2795.
