Junior CAC Track Team to Compete in Trinidad

July 13, 2006 – The Virgin Islands Track and Field Federation has finalized the team that will compete in the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games Junior Track and Field Championships in Trinidad this weekend, July 14-16. The drastically downsized team includes only three male athletes: Calvin Dascent: 200m, 400m: Lester Liburd: 400m, and Demetrius Jefferson: 400m. The top 400m female runner, Tyfia Lee, has scheduling conflicts and will not be competing. Anecia Williams, the Caribbean Field and Track Association (CARIFTA) bronze medallist in the 1500 meters, has opted out of the competition.
Other athletes who have had strong performances in local and regional competition this year, including Juan Robles, David Walters, Chadiola Chumney, Clint Smith and others, are not eligible to represent the V.I. in the CAC Junior Championships. The team leader is Linda Garraway and the coach is Devon Peters.
