Joseph A. Milligan Will Be Buried in N.Y.C.

July 25, 2006 – Joseph A. Milligan, age 86, a native of Frederiksted, St. Croix, U. S. Virgin Islands, departed this life in New York on Wednesday, July 19, after suffering an extended illness and hospital stay. The youngest son of seven children born to Edward and Catherine Christopher-Milligan, attended the St. Patrick's Catholic School in Frederiksted, and the Public High School in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands. He was predeceased by Brothers, Alphonso Benjamin, Claude, and Hugh Milligan, Sisters, Clarissa, and Veronica Milligan. Joseph migrated to St. Thomas and the United States mainland in fulfillment of his long held commitment for exceptional personal achievement.
Perseverance, vision, and the loyal support of his wife of over 50 years, the former Mavis Millin of St. Thomas, propelled Joseph through a series of successful entrepreneurial endeavors and remarkable career benchmarks.
Family and associates often sought Mr. Milligan's insight and expertise in matters concerning community and financial planning, probate/inheritance issues, customs and international trade and more. His unselfish involvement was appreciated by many, and will be sorely missed by those whom he counseled.
A member of the Republican National Committee, Catholic Court Attaches Guild and St. Patrick's Catholic School Alumni Association; his loyal support will be sorely missed.
Joseph is survived by his wife Mavis, brother Uralta Milligan, Sons Joseph, Michael and Kevin, daughter Jean Milligan, nine grand children and numerous nephews, nieces other relatives and friends.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Benta Funeral Home, services will be held on Wednesday, July 26, viewing from 10 a.m. to noon and a service from noon to 1 p.m., at 630 St. Nicholas Avenue, 141st Street, Harlem, New York.
The family has requested that donations/contributions may be made to Joseph's favorite charity, his Alma Mater and in his honor, the St. Patrick's Catholic School Alumni Association (Scholarship Fund), P. O. Box 1783, Frederiksted, St. Croix, U. S. Virgin Islands 00841-1783.
