Joyner Foundation Awards Scholarships to UVI Students

July 31, 2006 – The University of the Virgin Islands, through the Tom Joyner Foundation, has awarded $61, 000 in scholarships to 30 UVI students. The following recipients of awards for the 2006-2007 school year have been announced, according to a preliminary report received from the Tom Joyner Foundation.
Kraft Single Parent – $1500 each: Petula Stevens, Jaynae Edney, Jahtara Francis, Jacintha Greaux and Cherie Gordon.
Daimler Chrysler – $1500 each: Janiere Frank, Jo-Anne Seraph, Sonja Fyfied, Siean Williams, Calvert Birmingham, Sharifa Skelton, Derica Webster, Nilda Hector and Nancy Pendique-King.
Anheuser-Busch – $2500 each: Teejah Daley, Aisha Williams, Afiva Fredericks and Dorine Cuffy.
Tom Joyner Foundation – $2500 each: Diane Frances, Chantelle Pierre, Donela Shillingford, Bernita Randolph, Shaheedah Eusebe, Toriefa Alexander and Elirie Pierre, Scott Cave, Michelle Malone, Dwayne Petersen, Maria Arroya and Bernhardt Simmonds.
The 2006 UVI/Tom Joyner School of the Month campaign is still on going. It officially closes on Dec. 31. Scott-Elliott expects more awards to be forthcoming as the Office of Institutional Advancement continues to rally alumni, family, friends and donors for continued support of UVI's scholarship program.
