Trinidad Soca King to Perform at Reichhold Center

Aug. 10, 2006– The Reichhold Center for the Arts heats up Aug. 19 when Trinidad Road March King Machel Montano brings his pulsating soca to the stage.
Montano and his Xtatik band draw sell-out crowds at major venues.
The Summer Soca Splash also features Trinidad Road March Queen Patrice Roberts, who teamed with Montano on the hit single "Band of D Year," which earned the duo the 2006 Road March title.
Rodney "Benjai" LeBlanc also performs, and the opening set features St. Croix's Xtaushun Band.
In 1997, Montano became the youngest Road March king of Trinidad & Tobago, and Xtatik's album "Heavy Duty" went on to become one of the best selling soca albums of all time.
To date, Montano and Xtatik have produced 17 albums, and have performed with Third World, Destiny's Child, Buju Banton, Ziggy Marley and others. Some of their hits include "Take Me Back," "Footsteps," "Big Truck," and "Toro, Toro."
General admission to the Summer Soca Splash is $35 in advance. Ticket outlets include Parrot Fish, Modern Music, V.I. Bridal & Tuxedo, Urban Threadz, the UVI Bookstore and the Reichhold Box Office at 693-1559.
Tickets on St. Croix available at Urban Threadz (Sunny Isle).
Reichhold Center's Summer Soca Splash is sponsored by the V.I. Council on the Arts and Marriott Frenchman's Reef Hotel.
