CFVI Accepting Applications for Teacher Grants

Aug. 15, 2006 – Applications for the 2006 Teacher Grants from the Anderson Family Fund at The Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands are now available, according to a press release from CFVI President Dee Baecher-Brown.
The Anderson Family Fund "Teacher Grants Program" provides funding on a competitive basis to teachers, assistant teachers and guidance counselors for projects that seek to improve student achievement. Individuals and partners may request up to $1,000 to implement an innovative project in their classrooms and schools. Grant awards must supplement school activities and resources, not replace local or federal funding.
Awards in the Anderson Family Fund "Teacher Grants Program" will range from $250 to $1,000. Up to $20,000 in grants will be awarded. Teachers, assistant teachers and guidance counselors in the public school system of the U.S. Virgin Islands are eligible to receive this funding.
Priority will be given to proposals where students are directly involved in the project, the project description is clear and well organized, creative strategies and activities are used to improve student learning, outcomes are measurable and substantive, and the budget is realistic and funds will be used efficiently.
All proposals must be submitted on a CFVI application form available at www.cfvi.net. Applications can also be picked up at:
§ St. Thomas: CFVI Office, No. 30 Dronningens Gade, Suite 2C, Royal Dane Mall or The Draughting Shaft, Havensight Mall;
§ St. Croix: St. Croix Chamber of Commerce, 3009 Orange Grove, Suite 12, Christiansted.
§ St. John: Connections, Cruz Bay
Successful applicants must agree to submit a brief written report and, if possible, contribute visual documentation, on the use of the grant at the end of the funding period. Any applicant who was a recipient of a 2005 Anderson Teachers Grant must submit a brief written final report on the use of the 2005 grant in order to be eligible for a grant in 2006.
The application must be submitted to CFVI no later than 5 p.m., Friday, Sept. 29.
