DOH to Offer Emergency Training Courses

Aug. 24, 2006 – The Department of Health's Public Health Preparedness and Emergency Response Office in conjunction with the Virgin Islands Territorial Emergency Management Agency will offer training in Incident Command System (ICS) for all emergency responders and trained volunteers of the Community Emergency Response Team.
The training is also opened to interested residents or anyone who has completed the National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) training and has not had the ICS 100 and ICS 200 level training and to those who may need a refresher course on the concepts and principles of ICS, according to a press release from DOH.
The training, which is mandated by the federal government for all emergency workers employed at healthcare facilities and the various departments within the V.I. government, will be held over a four-day period, beginning Aug. 28-31, at the Charles Harwood Complex training room on St Croix and at the VITEMA headquarters on St. Thomas. The ICS 100 course will be taught from 8 a.m. to noon and the ICS 200 will be taught from l p.m. to 5 p.m. on the same days.
The purpose of this training is to better prepare emergency response personnel and anyone wanting to learn more about emergency response. All responders, CERT training volunteers and interested persons are encouraged to attend.
