Expert to Address St. John's Coral Reef Community

Oct. 25, 2006 — Coral reef researcher Peter Edmunds will talk about St. John's coral reef community Tuesday at UVI's MacLean Marine Science Center. The event is free and open to the public.
"We always like people to feel free to attend these seminars," said Maria Dillard, communications and outreach manager for UVI's VI-EPSCoR (Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research) program, which is sponsoring Edmunds' talk.
EPSCoR is a federally funded program designed to increase research in science and engineering within a traditionally underfunded state or territory. This is the third year of the program.
Edmunds, a biology professor at California State University at Northridge, studied coral reefs from his base at the V.I. Environmental Resource Station (VIERS) on St. John for more than 20 years and is considered an expert in his field.
Edmunds is in the territory to attend the Science in the Park conference to be held Nov. 1 through 3 at VIERS.
