Jan. 10, 2007 — The St. John Coastal Zone Management Committee will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Legislature building to hear a permit request by Flamboyant Realty Services Inc. to subdivide 84 acres on the island's East End.
St. John resident Bob Carney, who is the contractor for the project, said owners Mark Davies and Ed Netherland want to subdivide the property into lots that range in size from a little more than an acre to eight acres.
"And they want to put in an estate road and underground utilities," he said.
Carney said the property is located between the Privateer Point and Drecketts Bay subdivisions, with access through Privateer Point.
Planning and Natural Resources Department spokesman Jamal Nielsen said the project will have 31 lots.
At issue for both Carney and neighbor Terry McKoy is the size of the road as mandated by Planning. Carney said that Planning requires a road 20 feet wide, but he said he hope's he'll be able to have a narrower road.
"We're lobbying hard," he said.
McKoy said that wider roads encourage people to drive fast and create a larger scar on the hillside.
"I'm in favor of slower narrower roads with pullouts," McKoy said.
