Brief: American Legion Promotes 'Pause for the Pledge'

June 10, 2007 — American Legion District No. 10 is inviting people to participate in "Pause for the Pledge" and say the Pledge of Allegiance at 7 p.m. Thursday — Flag Day.
It's a way for V.I. citizens "to participate in a simultaneous nationwide expression of patriotism and unity," according to a Legion news release.
The Myron G. Danielson Post No. 85 will host a Flag Day retreat ceremony starting at 5 p.m. Thursday at the post headquarters in Gallows Bay, Christiansted. All Legionnaires and auxiliary members of posts 85, 102 and 133 and the general community are invited to join in this ceremony.
“I urge every member of this community to either join us personally at this public ceremony or take the time privately to say the pledge, wherever he or she may be, as an expression of respect for the flag of this great nation," said Commander Melbourne Clarke.
The American Legion posts continue to collect worn-out or damaged flags for a flag-disposal ceremony that will be conducted at the American Legion headquarters on Thursday. Any individual or organization with "unserviceable" flags may take them to the American Legion Headquarters in Gallows Bay, the news release said. For more information, contact the post at 773-0345.
