July 14, 2007 – Eugenie Maria Williams, also known as Jennie" or "Willie, of Estate Calquohoun, died on July 5, at Mt. Sinai Hospital, at age 74. Eugenie Maria Petersen Williams was born on Feb. 6, 1933 on St. Croix. She worked as a nurse's aide at the Municipal Hospital in Christiansted until 1957 when she left St. Croix to study nursing in NYC. She was a nurse for 25 years at Metropolitan Hospital. Returning home in 1984, she worked as a public health nurse and moved up to supervisor then associate director. After 10 years, she retired in 1995 and did some voluntary work such as vice president of AARP, a member of Sacred Heart Society and a Eucharistic minister.
She is survived by her daughters: Yvonne Hendricks and Cheryl Gordon; grandchildren: Naiomi Hendricks and Allison Gordon; sisters: Corlina Redmond and Cynthia David; and brother, Lee Petersen. Other survivors include great grandson, Nicholas Ruffin; best friend, Inez Lang; and many other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.
A viewing will be held from 10-11 a.m., on Wednesday, July 18, at St. Ann"s Catholic Church, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m., at the church. Interment will be held at Kingshill Cemetery, Veterans Section.
