Eugenie Maria Williams Dies at 74

July 14, 2007 – Eugenie Maria Williams, also known as “ Jennie" or "Willie,” of Estate Calquohoun, died on July 5, at Mt. Sinai Hospital, at age 74. Eugenie Maria Petersen Williams was born on Feb. 6, 1933 on St. Croix. She worked as a nurse's aide at the Municipal Hospital in Christiansted until 1957 when she left St. Croix to study nursing in NYC. She was a nurse for 25 years at Metropolitan Hospital. Returning home in 1984, she worked as a public health nurse and moved up to supervisor then associate director. After 10 years, she retired in 1995 and did some voluntary work such as vice president of AARP, a member of Sacred Heart Society and a Eucharistic minister.
She is survived by her daughters: Yvonne Hendricks and Cheryl Gordon; grandchildren: Naiomi Hendricks and Allison Gordon; sisters: Corlina Redmond and Cynthia David; and brother, Lee Petersen. Other survivors include great grandson, Nicholas Ruffin; best friend, Inez Lang; and many other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.
A viewing will be held from 10-11 a.m., on Wednesday, July 18, at St. Ann"s Catholic Church, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m., at the church. Interment will be held at Kingshill Cemetery, Veterans Section.
