Both Can Be Winners

Dear Source:

As I read your piece on the dispute between WICO & VIPA, two autonomous entities of the VI government, I see one agency that is seemingly hungry for growth and revenues and another that is crying over the loss of its monopoly. While VIPA has its own issues, based on your article, it looks like the gravy train to Havensight has run into some very real "potholes" caused by complacency.
WICO, as is standard for monopolistic entities, is crying foul and looking to the government to resolve its clear lack of foresight and free market thinking. Why didn't WICO cut a similar deal? It seems to me that the Territory is breaking even, the passengers & their money are still arriving and there's new available commercial space and other cruise lines that can be wooed to the islands. So why the whining "protect my rice bowl mentality?" Am I missing something here?
Based on your article, that's the way I see it. Now let's build a convention center & ballpark in Crown Bay & move the cargo facilities to a new site near the lagoon out by the racetrack & bovoni dump.
