Cancer Support VI Schedules Monthly Lectures

July 31, 2007 – Cancer Support Virgin Islands (CSVI) is a group of cancer patients, survivors and caregivers. The group meets on the first Wednesday of the month at the Charlotte Kimelman Cancer Institute Medical Auditorium and at The Mark Marin Complex located at Antilles School, St. Thomas. International Capital & Management Company sponsors the series. Meetings are open to all.

Cancer Support V.I. Lecture 2007 Series

First Wednesday of the month Noon to 1 p.m., at the Charlotte Kimelman Cancer Institute and from 7- 8:30 p.m. at the Mark C. Marin Complex located at Antilles School
August 1: Amy Gurlea and Sharon Treikman, yoga instructors: Restorative yoga for cancer patients.
September 5: Allen Buckingham, tai chi master: Healing Energy of Tai Chi
October 3: Donna M. Philip, CKCI certified mastectomy fitter: Prosthetics, wigs, and apparel for women, men and children cancer survivors. You can even try them on!
November 7: Dr. Derrick Grant, CKCI: Clinical Trials: How they work and how they can help cancer patients both during and after treatment
Upcoming Speakers include Margo Zimmerman, yoga instructor; Dr. Bert M. Petersen, chief of breast surgery, Hackensack University Medical Center; Beverly Plaskett and Monica Frett, VI Department of Human Services, Cancer Program- discussing the services available to USVI cancer patients; Dr. Petra Ketterl, CTCA oncologist, on breast cancer treatments; Dr. Timothy Birdsall, ND, vice president Integrative Medicine, Cancer Treatment Centers of America; and Dr. Edgar Staren, CTCA chief medical officer (to be confirmed)

The group comes together to share our experiences, strengths and hope. CSVI provides lectures by healthcare professionals and support meetings for cancer survivors, and caregivers. CSVI is free of charge and open to anyone affected by cancer.
