Aug. 4, 2007 – Acting Assistant Health Commissioner Dr. Marc Jerome noted Friday that August is National Immunization Awareness Month and is urging parents to get pre-teens vaccinated against diseases.
Parents should make sure that children 11 and 12 years old are vaccinated against serious and sometimes life-threatening diseases such as meningitis, whooping cough and cervical cancer, Dr. Jerome said.
Parents are urged to schedule a preventative health care checkup and talk to a health care provider about updating their child's vaccinations.
The Department of Health is also reminding parents that immunization clinics territory-wide are accepting walk-in clients now through Aug. 9. Thereafter, vaccinations will be by appointment only for a one-month period beginning Aug. 13 through Sept. 13, 2007.
