Respect and Support for the Governor

Dear Source:

Governor de Jongh continues to demonstrate wisdom, skilled leadership and a vision for repairing a very damaged and dysfunctional system of government that is not lined up to meet the needs of the Constituents that it is suppose to serve. He is right on about our need to have openness and transparency in EVERY aspect of all public spending as well as decision-making on behalf of the people of the VI which it is suppose to serve from Legislative meetings to PSC Board Meetings.
What is obvious to me is that Gov. de jongh has little need to "run things"… to flex his muscles and show power and control over other entities for the sake of proving he is Governor. No…Instead, what I see him doing as a great leader is talking to people; listening; paying attention; watching; allowing the people to express themselves over the issues arising. Then once he and his Team gets all of the information needed to make the best decision on "How does everyone win…How can we repair this problem"…he responds.
This is huge! This is visionary, conscious Leadership, something that we have been lacking for many. many years. Everything that Governor de Jongh has identified as in need of change, needs change. He is getting to the root of the issues that rarely get identified. He is weeding out the factors that keep us from solving our problems. Some of these entities may "balk" at his laying some concrete boundaries down, for example, the stand on the ferries losing their franchise if they stop transportation services between St. Thomas and St. John. The truth is that they may need more monies to operate however what they also need is better management of their services to the people who subsidize them!
We can no longer keep throwing money at problems-instead we need to identify the real problems and fix them. This is exactly what our Governor is attempting to do.
Governor de Jongh, you just gave me the best early Christmas present I could have ever received. What you are doing is finally laying groundwork to create much needed trust in government for the people of the Virgin Islands. My support and respect for you grows steadily.
Bonny Corbeil
St. John
