Synagogue Will Hold Its Annual Auction in February

Jan. 14, 2008 – The St. Thomas Synagogue will hold its annual auction from noon to 4 p.m., on Sunday, Feb. 17, at the UVI Sports Center. A champagne preview will be held from 3-5 p.m., on Saturday, Feb. 16. The silent auction will open at the Saturday preview; tables will close between 2 and 3 p.m., on Sunday. Proceeds from the auction help maintain the 175-year-old Synagogue, a National Historic Monument, and keep it open to visitors. About 10,000 people visit the Synagogue each year.
Highlights of the auction include: antique West Indian and Chinese furniture, etchings by Camille Pissarro, watches, taini axes, photo, art, collectibles, rugs, cases of wine and champagne, getaways, jewelry, and a 1976 Porsche 914.
Photos and descriptions of items can be found at www.synagogue.typepad.com. Proxy bidding and shipping are available. Call 774-4312, or e-mail hebrewcong@islands.vi. There is a $10 donation, which includes the auction catalogue.
