Felony Suspect Gunned Down in Christiansted

Feb. 27, 2008 — A man out of jail on felony charges was shot and killed Wednesday night near St. John's Episcopal Church on King Street, Christiansted, according to police.
Wilfredo Garcia died from multiple gunshot wounds, according to a release issued from the V.I. Police Department two hours after the incident. Details on the shooting were still sketchy as of 9:30 p.m., the release said, but police spokeswoman Melody Rames said further information would be provided Thursday.
"Police and criminal investigation detectives are still present on the scene," the release said. And Commissioner James H. McCall, on St. Croix participating in a radio talk show and press conference, was also present at the scene of the investigation.
Police received a 911 call at 7:26 p.m. from a concerned citizen reporting the incident.
Garcia was a resident of Tan Tan Terrace. Police were following several leads Wednesday.
