March 6, 2008 – The Virgin Islands Therapy Association (VITA), Schneider Regional Medical Center and Yacht Haven Grande are co-sponsoring the first annual Wellness in the Sun Fair to be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., on Saturday, March 8, at Magens Bay Beach, Shed No. 3, according to a press release from VITA.
The fair will promote good health and wellness by showcasing a number of fitness activities such as yoga for adults and children, tai chi, quigong, akido, water aerobics, meditation and adaptive swimming. Community organizations that promote wellness have been invited, as well as massage therapists, chiropractors, fitness trainers and nutritionists. The SRMC Rehabilitation Department will provide adaptive water activities and facilitate the "One Mile Water Walk." All activities will be free of charge although donations for the VI Disability Group, which buys equipment for disabled children, would be welcome. There will also be a sand sculpture contest, face painting and yoga for children.
VITA is comprised of physical therapists, occupational therapists and speech therapists. Their mission is to promote awareness and understanding of those with disabilities, to advocate for their outreach and to provide them with services and therapy.
