March 12, 2008 — Police marked one more fugitive off the V.I. Most Wanted List Tuesday after a man wanted on assault and weapons charges on St. Croix turned himself in.
Lawrence "Rancio" Greenidge, 28, surrendered to police about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. He was added to the list Feb. 15 and wanted on charges of first-degree assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime of violence, possession or sale of ammunition, and reckless endangerment in the first degree, said police spokeswoman Melody Rames. The charges were connected to a Jan. 2 crime in Estate Whim.
A warrant was issued for Greenidge Jan. 28 by Superior Court Judge Julio A. Brady, and his photo was widely circulated by the V.I. Police Department.
Greenidge told members of the Investigations Bureau that "several people told him he was wanted by police and his photo was seen in newspapers, on television and the Internet," Rames said.
He was jailed following an advice-of-rights hearing Wednesday in Superior Court.
Eleven suspects remain on the list, Police Commissioner James McCall said, according to a news release. Suspects on St. Croix are Nfari Benjamin, Hesket Ovaldo John, Roger J. Petersen, Khail Alphonso Thompson and Shawn Gerald, while St. Thomas suspects are Jose Santana Bastardo, Angel L. James, Almen Chesterfield, Anthony A. Turbe, Luther Thomas and Albion "Dee" Frett.
Photos of the fugitives are available at vipd.gov.vi/crime/wanted.aspx. Officials caution that hairstyles may have changed since the pictures were taken.
