Fire Claims House on Commandant Gade

March 15, 2008 — While the smell of smoke wafted from downtown St. Thomas up to Mafolie Hill, a crew of 17 firefighters from Hotel Company worked quickly to contain a blaze that engulfed and almost burned to the ground a one-story wooden house on Commandant Gade.
Fire officials said they are not yet sure what sparked the blaze, but it is clear at this point that no one was injured. There was also no visible damage to surrounding houses.
Firefighters responded to the call around 8:15 p.m. Saturday and managed to have the fire out in under an hour. All that was left of the house were the charred remains of the foundation.
The Source will provide more details on the fire as they become available.
