Brief: U.S. Housing Secretary Resigns Under Cloud of V.I. Investigation

March 31, 2008 — Alphonso R. Jackson, federal secretary of Housing, resigned Monday as the FBI investigates whether he gave housing contracts in the Virgin Islands and New Orleans to his personal friends.
Jackson's letter of resignation says he wishes to spend more time with his family, according to a report in Monday's New York Times.
