May 27, 2008 — The V.I. Water and Power Authority is down three major generating units on St. Thomas and has been experiencing problems at the Randolph Harley Power Plant since early Tuesday morning.
As a result, a number of feeders have been without power since 8:15 a.m., including the Ridge Road Feeder, the Tutu Park Mall Feeder (which is presently generating its own power), part of Feeder 9C (Estate Nadir), part of Feeder 7A and part of Feeder 6A, which runs from the University of the Virgin Islands to the western end of St. Thomas. Service will be interrupted to these areas until 1:30 p.m.
In order to meet the island's demand and make sure schools are kept in session, other feeders — including seven and eight –may be without service until late afternoon, according to a WAPA news release.
All hotels, the Tutu Park Mall and several other large power users are assisting by running their back up generators. All customers are asked to use power conservatively on Tuesday as WAPA works to make repairs at the Harley Power Plant.
