June 20, 2008 – The Virgin Islands Police Department will conduct DUI enforcement during the St. John festivities to ensure motorists are not operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. Enforcement will increase for traffic safety violations, and motorists are encouraged to wear their seatbelts, use a hands-free cell phone while driving, observe the speed limit and take the dark tint off their car windows, according to a press release from VIPD.
Drivers are asked to drink responsibly and/or designate a licensed driver. When parking, entering or exiting the Red Hook area, drivers are asked to utilize care, caution and courtesy when driving because of the large number of vehicles and pedestrians that will be in the area during the festival.
1. No double parking
2. No impeding or obstructing traffic
3. No blocking access to businesses
4. No blocking sidewalk access ramps or handicap parking.
5. No parking in places that are marked and designated for businesses in the Red Hook area.
1. Do not leave valuable items visible in your vehicle; lock them in the trunk instead
2. Use caution when walking to and from your vehicle; always walk in well it areas
3. Properly secure your vehicle
